Dr. Matthew D. Schaer is an experienced chiropractor, educator, and founder of Chiropractie Den Haag and Chiropractie Oosterheem. With more than 15 years of international clinical experience, he is known for his thorough approach and clear communication.

Matthew grew up in Southern California and graduated cum laude from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He then earned his Doctor of Chiropractic degree in the United States.

At his practices, Matthew cares for people with a wide range of concerns, from headaches and back or neck pain to persistent, more complex conditions and symptoms following trauma.

As one of the few Cranial Facial Release (CFR) instructors worldwide, and the only one based in Europe, he shares his knowledge with other practitioners and mentors emerging chiropractors.

His own experiences as a patient shape his approach. Having dealt with severe migraines and cancer, he understands how profoundly health challenges can affect a person’s life.

How Did His Chiropractic Career Begin?

Matthew grew up in Southern California. His interest in chiropractic care is closely tied to his own health history: he experienced severe migraine attacks.

After experiencing an improvement in his migraines while receiving chiropractic care, he was inspired to help others. He decided to explore chiropractic care in greater depth.

After studying at UCLA, he earned his Doctor of Chiropractic degree in the United States. His career eventually brought him to the Netherlands, where he founded Chiropractie Den Haag and Chiropractie Oosterheem.

During the examination, he aims to develop a comprehensive understanding of the patient’s concerns. He clearly explains his findings and discusses which treatment options may be appropriate.

His approach emphasizes careful assessment, easy-to-understand explanations, and supporting long-term recovery. He considers factors such as:

Goals for Daily Function and Quality of Life

“Every patient has a unique story. Listening carefully and explaining things clearly allows us to work together toward meaningful recovery goals.”

Headaches and Migraines

Matthew’s interest in headaches and migraines comes from personal experience. Having dealt with severe migraines himself, he understands how much they can affect work, social activities, and everyday life.

In his chiropractic practice, he also sees patients with headaches. A careful assessment is central to determining which factors may be involved and what next steps are appropriate and safe.

His personal experience helps him appreciate the impact of persistent symptoms, while recognizing that not every headache has the same cause or calls for the same approach.

Back and Neck Pain

Back and neck pain are among the most common reasons people visit Matthew. These problems can affect sleep, work, movement, and relaxation.

Matthew considers how symptoms have developed, the findings of the physical examination, and their effects on daily activities. Based on this assessment, he discusses an individualized approach.

His goal is to address not only pain but also how a person moves and functions in everyday life.

Cranial Facial Release and Complex Conditions

Matthew has specialized experience with Cranial Facial Release (CFR). He is among a small group of CFR instructors worldwide and is the only instructor based in Europe.

He teaches this specialized technique to other healthcare professionals in Europe. His wider clinical work also includes patients with persistent or more complex conditions, including symptoms involving the nervous system or arising after trauma.

A thorough assessment is particularly important in these cases. Appropriate care depends on the individual’s circumstances and any relevant medical considerations.

International and Approachable

Experience with Patients from Different Countries

With his American background and international clinical experience, Matthew is accustomed to working with people from many different backgrounds.

He values clear explanations. Patients should understand what is being assessed, what options are available, and what they can expect from their care.

In this way, he encourages patients to take an active role in decisions about their care.

Personal Background

What Motivates Matthew

For Matthew, chiropractic care is more than a profession. His interest began with his own experience of severe migraines, which inspired him to help others facing health challenges.
